This is the junk drawer. It’s what didn’t fit under Power BI, Business Central, or AI, and most of it is here because I needed to write it down so I’d stop solving it from scratch every eighteen months.
As Josh Knox once put it, a blog is just letters to your future self. This page is the clearest evidence of that.
Things I’ve had to look up more than once
- Remote connecting via SSH: permission denied (publickey). I’ve hit this three or four separate times in my life. Now it’s written down.
- Create CSP Azure subscriptions using PowerShell. Four steps, assuming you’re a CSP partner with the right permissions already sorted.
- How to find users in Azure B2C by email address. Custom extension properties, and a search that doesn’t work the way you’d expect.
Dynamics vocabulary and community
- What is DAX and how does it relate to Dynamics 365?. It’s Data Analysis Expressions, and it’s also Dynamics AX. Context decides which.
- How to find Dynamics GP training and networking opportunities. I don’t know GP. I do help run the user group, and plenty of people there still care about it.
- How to find which fields to use when customizing report layouts. Filed here too, because the problem comes up well outside Business Central.
Tools and small workflow wins
None of these are hard. All of them saved me time.
- Making my OneNote window semi-transparent. AutoHotKey, two monitors, and not having to turn my head during a Teams call.
- How to use HubSpot Sales Hub with Outlook. The original Outlook, not the new one. Steps included.
- How to filter blog posts out of your Google Search Console results. Regex in the page filter, so your blog stops burying the pages you’re trying to look at.
- Companies that use enterprise resource planning: finding results in Google. I don’t have the list you searched for, but here’s how to build it yourself.
Opinions, and one book
- What does the future look like for business intelligence?. Where I think business intelligence goes once the tools stop waiting on a human to act.
- Think before you release. Some thoughts on shipping fast, prompted by a funding announcement.
- Unlock the ultimate vacation with ChatGPT. A week in Italy with ChatGPT as a Swiss army knife. Pronunciation help included.
- Review of “Influence is Your Superpower” by Zoe Chance. The first book I finished after a few years of not reading much.
Working through one of these right now? Grab 20 minutes on my calendar. No pitch, just a conversation. I answer every message personally.
