This is most of what I actually work on now. I spent years in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, and these days I spend my time on Power BI and getting AI to do real work in small and mid-sized companies.
If you landed on one of my older Dynamics posts and wondered where I went, this is where.
If you’re coming from the Dynamics side
Same kind of problems, different tools. These three are the closest to the work I used to do as a functional consultant.
- Catching data inconsistencies with Claude Cowork. Manufacturing data with mismatched BOMs and POs, checked by AI instead of by eye. This is the one that feels most like old-fashioned functional consulting.
- How I sync time entries across three systems. Subcontractor time into my system and the prime’s, which is exactly the tedium that used to eat my Fridays.
- Power BI Copilot and how to turn it on. It needs capacity, and the Fabric free trial isn’t it. Here’s what actually switches it on.
Start with the tools
If you’ve heard the names and never worked out which is which, read these two in order.
- What are Claude, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code?. What each one actually is and which to reach for. Start here.
- Building context for your Cowork projects. Giving a project enough background that you stop re-explaining yourself every session.
Getting output you’d actually send to someone
- How to get consistent, on-brand documents from AI every time. Same voice and format every time. This is the part I always found hardest to delegate to people, too.
Connecting it to systems you already run
This is where it stops being a chat window and starts being useful.
- Adding an MCP server to Claude Desktop. For when there’s no standard connector for the system you need it to touch. Long one, with the whole setup.
- Three attempts at getting Claude to manage my WordPress site. It took three tries, and the thing that finally worked is not the thing I expected.
Small things I built
- Free HEIC to JPG converter, built with AI. PowerPoint won’t take HEIC files. I’d already wasted $0.99 on an app that didn’t work, so I built one.
- Github and Replit not working, credentials not being saved. The askpass error, and what was actually going on behind it.
Most of the reporting side lives on a separate page: Power BI: start here.
